Three bespoke glass wall sconces from Curiousa Studio, each incorporating vintage plates and colourful hand-blown glass, mounted above a wooden sideboard in a library space.

At Kinder Design, we believe that lighting should never be an afterthought. It’s one of the most powerful tools we have to bring atmosphere, personality, and a bit of magic into a space - and it’s something we love sourcing for our clients.

In our recent residential interior design project a Victorian Terrace in Waterloo, we had so much fun commissioning a series of truly one-of-a-kind lights. Our client had a bold sense of style, a love for colour, and an openness to pieces that were a little bit unexpected (our favourite combo). So we pulled together a collection of statement lights that were bespoke, sustainable, and completely unique to her home.

In the library space, we worked with Curiousa Studio to create three stunning wall sconces made from hand-blown glass and vintage plates. Each one is a little work of art - and totally bespoke. We selected the colours ourselves to perfectly suit the scheme. These lights give off a soft, inviting glow and add such character to the room.

The sculptural Luminator floor lamp by Flos in the kitchen, standing tall beside a window and next to a bold patterned armchair.

The Kitchen Rocket: Luminator by Flos

This one’s a real showstopper. The Luminator floor light by Flos has a rocket-like silhouette that brings a sculptural, futuristic vibe to the kitchen. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it, and was thrilled to have a client who loved it just as much. It’s a bold piece that sparks conversation and balances beautifully against the more classic elements of the space.

Dining Room Feature: Chimbarongo Pendant by PET Lamp

We wanted something really special for the space above the dining table—and found it in the Chimbarongo pendant by PET Lamp. This woven light is handmade by artisans in Chile using recycled plastic bottles and wicker, and every design is slightly different. It’s one of those pieces that brings a story with it—and it felt good to support a project that’s both socially conscious and beautifully crafted.

A Pink Moment in the Bedroom

Our client loves pink—so we had to find a way to weave that in with personality. Enter the wall sconce by Rothschild & Bickers, which is part Chinoiserie, part kitsch, and 100% joyful. Inspired by 18th-century design and finished with a fringed trim, this light brings charm and whimsy to the bedroom in just the right way.

Corner of a bedroom featuring a Tom Raffield ‘Skipper’ pendant in natural ash, paired with dramatic green curtains and bold floral wallpaper on wardrobe doors.

Natural Contrast with Tom Raffield

In the master bedroom, the wardrobe doors were lined with dramatic dragon wallpaper, so we needed something slightly softer (but not boring) to balance things out. We chose the Skipper pendant by Tom Raffield in natural ash—a sculptural light that’s calm, crafted, and still packs a design punch.

At Kinder Design, sourcing the right lighting is about more than just illumination. It’s about mood, materials, craftsmanship, and helping each client’s personality shine through. From bespoke glasswork to recycled design, we love helping our clients discover lighting that makes their homes feel truly personal.
