We are proud to see our Gin Distillery project in Whitechapel featured in Evening Standard , recognised as a creative and transformative reinvention of a historic industrial building into a distinctive family home.

Located in South East London, the former Victorian gin distillery had been long abandoned before Kinder Design, working alongside Open Practice Architecture, reimagined the structure with sensitivity and intent. The design celebrates the building’s robust character - original brickwork, towering windows and steel beams - while softening it through the introduction of natural materials, muted tones and layered textures.

Bright modern living room with green sofa, patterned chairs, shelves with jars, large window, and minimalist decor. Cozy and airy ambiance.

The Evening Standard highlights how this project blends functionality with personality, creating a home that feels both rooted in its industrial past and perfectly adapted for modern family life. Every space was carefully considered to bring light, flow and comfort to the original framework.

As an interior design studio based in South East London, Kinder Design is committed to working with the soul of a building - retaining its spirit while enhancing it for contemporary living. The Gin Distillery project remains a defining example of our belief that thoughtful, contextual design creates homes of lasting significance. You can view the full project here.
