Bold and playful hallway interior featuring a pink-painted wall, floral patterned floor tiles in green, pink, and blue, and a tall arched mirror reflecting a green textured armchair and floral wallpaper in an adjacent room. A black hat, green coat, and brown bag hang on black wall hooks above a black terrazzo shoe rack holding a pair of boots.

At Kinder Design, colour is one of our favourite tools for transforming a space - and our recent residential project in Waterloo is a perfect example of just how powerful it can be.

Our client was wonderfully fearless with her choices. She opted for a vibrant pink (Shallot by Farrow & Ball) to sweep through her hallway and landings - the main arteries of her home. Even more impressively, she committed to it without so much as a sample pot. That level of boldness was a first for me as an interior designer, and it was an absolute joy to bring her colourful vision to life. When I start working with a client, I’m always curious about their relationship with colour. It’s something so personal, and yet it also speaks to broader feelings - comfort, confidence, energy, identity. Many people feel nervous about committing to strong or saturated tones. They want to love colour, but worry it won’t “work” or that they’ll get bored. That’s where working with an interior designer can make all the difference.

At Kinder Design, I work closely with each client to explore their personal taste and how they want their spaces to feel. Whether we’re talking about bold pink walls or calming neutrals, colour is about creating an atmosphere that feels just right for you. It doesn’t always have to mean going big - sometimes embracing colour means using white in a thoughtful way, or adding just the right pop of contrast.

Understanding colour psychology - how colour affects mood, energy and perception - is something I bring into every project. In fact, thinking about colour is often one of the first things I do in the concept phase, whether I’m working on a home or a commercial space. Colour can make a room feel larger, cosier, calmer or more energised - it’s endlessly powerful. If you’ve been playing it safe with neutrals but are curious about adding colour into your home (in a way that feels you), I’d love to help. Whether you’re dreaming of something bold or subtly expressive, Kinder Design specialises in colourful interiors that reflect the personality and style of each client.
