We’re thrilled to have our project Gin Distillery project in Whitechapel showcased in East London Homes (2019), a publication by Hoxton Mini Press celebrating creative interiors from London’s East End.

Formerly a Victorian gin distillery, the building has been thoughtfully reimagined by Kinder Design and Open Practice Architecture into a warm and textural family home. Preserving the building’s industrial spirit - from exposed brickwork and soaring steel-framed windows to timber and concrete elements - was central to the design approach.

At the same time, Kinder Design softened the structure’s robust character with natural materials, layered textures and carefully zoned living spaces. The result is a home that feels at once anchored in its past and beautifully adapted for contemporary family life.

Magazine open to a page showing a smiling man and seated woman in a modern living space. Text on the right reads "Leo Wood & Rupert Scott".

Open book on wooden table, showing modern interiors. Left page: staircase and chair; right page: dining area with wooden beams. Text below reads: "Pops of colour and mid-century furniture bring an edge to this industrial space."

Open book on a wooden table. Left page has text; right page shows a modern living room with large windows, green sofa, and a black stove.

Kinder Design’s ethos is to work sympathetically with the stories and structures of the spaces we inhabit - bringing together integrity, comfort and quiet character. Being featured in East London Homes reflects our ongoing commitment to design that feels authentic, considered and enduring.
