Leo Wood of Kinder Design working at her desk, reflecting on her journey from theatre producer to South East London interior designer.

We’re proud to have contributed to Building Design Online’s opinion series with a piece exploring the relationship between architects and interior designers — and the strength that comes from genuine collaboration.

In the article, founder Leo Wood shares reflections from working across multiple renovation and build projects, including her own home, The Coach House, designed in partnership with Open Practice Architecture. The piece explores how interiors can do more than decorate - they can elevate, balance and complete architectural ideas.

At Kinder Design, we believe that the best results emerge when there’s a shared respect between disciplines. A strong interior designer doesn't dilute a vision - they deepen it, ensuring that spatial intent is carried through with clarity and care. When we’re brought in early, we help ensure that homes don’t just look beautiful but also feel deeply functional, grounded, and emotionally resonant.

As a South East London interior design studio, we often work on homes where small interventions carry big impact - whether that’s through bold interior design choices, layered material palettes, or spatial planning that responds to everyday life. Our work isn’t about trends; it’s about enduring design that supports the rhythm of living.

We’re grateful to BD Online for opening up the conversation and highlighting the power of cross-discipline collaboration. It’s a conversation we’re always keen to be part of - because design, at its core, is a dialogue.
