Book cover: "A Modern Way to Live". Features a round wooden table, chairs, and pink curtains. Subtext: "5 Design Principles from The Modern House".

We are pleased to have our Gin Distillery project in Whitechapel included in A Modern Way to Live (2021) by Matt Gibberd, co-founder of The Modern House. The book explores five design principles that define thoughtful, enduring homes, making it a natural fit for this project. The Gin Distillery represents Kinder Design’s commitment to creating homes that are both deeply contextual and designed for contemporary living. Originally a Victorian industrial space, the building has been carefully reimagined through a palette of natural materials, soft textures and calm, layered interiors that respect the building’s robust past while introducing warmth and lightness.

Throughout the home, original architectural elements - exposed brick, steel beams and soaring ceilings - are balanced with oak joinery, muted tones and a considered mix of old and new. As an interior design studio based in South East London, Kinder Design specialises in bringing together architectural integrity and the emotional quality of home.  The inclusion of the Gin Distillery in A Modern Way to Live speaks to the importance of authenticity, texture and functionality in design - values that sit at the heart of every Kinder Design project.
