Giving Back: Supporting the Spitalfields Crypt Trust

At Kinder Design, we believe that thoughtful interior design extends beyond the spaces we create. It’s also about how we operate as a studio, the values we uphold, and the impact we can have beyond our immediate projects.
Each year, we donate 5% of Kinder Design’s annual profits to charity. This year, we’re proud to once again be supporting Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) - an East London charity doing exceptional work to support people into lasting recovery from addiction and homelessness.
Supporting Lasting Recovery, Not Short-Term Fixes
SCT’s approach is rooted in long-term change. Rather than addressing symptoms in isolation, their work focuses on rebuilding stability, confidence, skills, and social connection — tackling the underlying causes of addiction and homelessness.
Alongside accommodation and tailored support, SCT provides training and pathways back into work, helping people regain routine, purpose, and independence over time. It’s this depth and integrity that makes their work so powerful — and why we’re proud to support it.
The Restoration Station: Craft, Care, and Purpose
Our donation helps support Restoration Station in Spitalfields, a social enterprise workshop where people are taught traditional woodworking and furniture restoration skills.
Participants restore vintage furniture pieces, learning practical craft skills while also building confidence, routine, and focus. The restored furniture is then sold, helping to fund SCT’s wider recovery programmes.
As one participant puts it:
“Since starting Restoration Station I’ve noticed that my skills are improving. It keeps me on track and gives me a focus and helps my recovery by giving me routine.”
There’s something especially meaningful, as an interior design studio, in supporting a programme that brings new life to existing furniture - combining sustainability, craftsmanship, and social impact in a very real, hands-on way.
Spitalfields Crypt Trust Small Contributions, Real Impact
In the wider scheme of things, our donation is modest. But in practical terms, it helps fund training, tools, and real opportunities for people rebuilding their lives.
As an interior designer, it’s easy to focus only on the finished space. But good design - and good practice - is about people, process, and purpose. Supporting work like SCT’s feels like a natural extension of our values as a studio committed to kindness, sustainability, and thoughtful design.
We’re incredibly proud that Kinder Design can play a small part in supporting work of this depth, care, and integrity.
