We are delighted to see our Victorian Terrace project in Brockley featured in the May 2023 edition of 25 Beautiful Homes, a magazine that showcases some of the UK's most characterful and uplifting interiors. Located in Brockley, the renovation centred around creating interiors that felt playful, layered and expressive whilst still remaining calm and functional for everyday living. The project became an exercise in balancing stronger moments of personality with softer architectural and material choices throughout the home.

Bringing Personality Into A Period Home

One of the things we often think about at Kinder Design is how to create homes that feel genuinely individual rather than overly trend-led or formulaic.

For this project, colour became an important part of shaping atmosphere and identity within the interiors. Rather than treating colour as something decorative added at the end of a project, it was considered early within the design process as part of the overall feeling of the spaces.

The aim was to create rooms that felt warm, characterful and reflective of the people living there without becoming visually overwhelming.

Colour, Texture & Balance

The 25 Beautiful Homes feature focused particularly on the way colour and texture were layered throughout the house.

Bolder tonal moments were balanced carefully with softer materials, natural timber, textured fabrics and quieter architectural detailing to ensure the interiors still felt cohesive and liveable long term.

We’re often interested in spaces that feel relaxed rather than overly styled - homes where colour feels integrated naturally into the atmosphere of the interiors rather than treated as a singular statement.

Many of the strongest moments within the project came from these quieter combinations of material, light and tone working together gradually across the house.

Interior Design Is About Designing Around Family Life

As with many residential renovation projects, practicality sat alongside aesthetics throughout the process.

The spaces needed to function comfortably for family life whilst still allowing room for individuality and creativity. Storage, flow and flexibility were integrated carefully into the layout so the house could feel calm and organised without losing warmth or personality.

The overall aim was to create a home that felt timeless, expressive and genuinely enjoyable to live in day-to-day.
