The Before

High Rise, Croydon

The dark painted wall in the bedroom was the boldest move: moody, considered and exactly the kind of decision that stops a room feeling like a developer’s afterthought. Colour came in through accessories and artwork throughout. In the children’s room, wallpaper and a canopy gave the space personality without requiring structural intervention, while ball feet and handles added to an IKEA Bestå unit in the living room showed what a small intervention can do.

The result was a flat that felt like someone’s home – which was precisely the point.

This was a commission for a show home for the developer Brick by Brick in Croydon – a two-bedroom high-rise flat with a tight budget and a clear brief: make it feel real. Not staged, not aspirational in an abstract way, but genuinely characterful and lived in. The kind of home a prospective buyer could actually picture themselves in.

With limited funds and a white box to work with, the approach was almost entirely about sourcing. High street finds from the likes of West Elm, John Lewis and Habitat sat alongside vintage pieces and work from independent local makers. Where possible, furniture and objects were carried over from previous show homes we worked on with this client – a deliberately efficient approach that kept costs down and waste minimal.

"Leo went out of her way to source local and upcycled pieces and the show home felt both homely and aspirational."
